Parents, did you know...

College Forward students have been accepted to over 70 different colleges and universities this year!

College Persistence Program

Helping our students get into college is just half our job. In the College Persistence Program, we also work to make sure they stay there until they earn bachelor’s degrees.  Texas ranks among the lowest states in the U.S. on college persistence and graduation rates.   We are proud of the fact that collegians in our Persistence Program are persisting in college at a rate of 75%.  By the spring of 2015, we will have 450 college graduates!

Our six full time College Persistence Coordinators work with collegians on the varied problems and questions that occur throughout their college experience.  We currently serve 781 collegians attending over 70 universities nationwide, and will continue to grow by about 500 to 600 students per year.  We continue to expand our service and methods of contact with students to provide the most advanced, innovative, and complete support possible for our collegians.  This includes:

  • Support Services:
    - Annual support with FAFSA
    - Help finding and completing scholarship applications
    - Transfer assistance
    - Referrals to appropriate college services, as needed

  • Regular Mailings:
    -Care packages during finals
-Exclusive Collegian Newsletters every 2 months
  • College Reunions and Events:
    - December Reunion
    - July Reunion
    - End of School Year Collegian Dinner

And beginning in Fall 2010, the College Persistence Program will begin  College Forward Campus Groups and Mentorships:

College Forward is proud to introduce the newest addition to our College Persistence Program, the Collegian Mentor Program. The CMP consists of collegian mentor/mentee groups on select campuses and operates with the oversight and funding of College Forward. Each group is an officially recognized organization on its respective campus.

The CMP connects upperclassmen College Forward collegian mentors with incoming College Forward freshmen mentees at their school, which will provide an added layer of support for our students during the often-times arduous first year of their college career. Mentors meet twice a month with mentees to build friendships and track progress, and once a month with the other College Forward mentor groups on their campus to perform community service, attend workshops, and expand their social network.
We believe that these groups will pave the way to greater college success for our ever-growing number of college-attending students. As we extend our services to more and more students, college mentors will allow College Forward to maintain a more direct connection with our students, thus increasing their chances of persisting and succeeding through college.
If you are a College Forward collegian interested in getting involved with the program, please contact the Persistence team at (512)-452-4800 extension 201 or email us at collegians@collegeforwarg.org
