About AmeriCorps

College Forward is a proud recipient of AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service as both an AmeriCorps*Texas and an AmeriCorps*VISTA project.

At College Forward, AmeriCorps*Texas and AmeriCorps*VISTA members are more than hired hands – they are valued contributors to everything we do. In fact, College Forward is largely the creation of committed and creative AmeriCorps members who believe deeply in our mission and are determined to change the world through education.

Entry-level workers don’t find many opportunities in which their ideas will be taken seriously. College Forward is one of the rare few. We not only care what you think, but we’ll actively seek your opinions – and you can be part of the team that puts them into practice.

Our culture? Think “Whistle While You Work.” We are serious about our goals and work very hard, but our light-hearted, team-based approach enables us to regard many of our duties as play. Our students and our AmeriCorps members are able to accomplish great things not because we drive them relentlessly, but because they are fulfilled by the journey. We support the growth and development of our AmeriCorps members who, since 2003, have moved into graduate programs, law school, medical school, and professional careers in public service after serving one or two years at College Forward. During their tenure with us, we make sure that they gain professional, resume-building experience.

AmeriCorps*VISTA members (Volunteers in Service to America) provide indirect, capacity-building services to nonprofit, faith-based and other community organizations to create and expand programs that ultimately bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.

"College Forward gives me the opportunity to use my knowledge and experience to help students who truly deserve a shot at higher education."

—Neily, AmeriCorps*VISTA

Since VISTA was created in 1965, more than 140,000 people have made the commitment to strengthen the capacity of community organizations. VISTA members have made significant contributions to College Forward by taking on crucial “behind the scenes” responsibilities such as marketing, fundraising, public relations, program evaluation, and much more!

At College Forward, AmeriCorps*
VISTA members serve on a Full-Time (40 hours/week) basis, for a term of 12 months.

AmeriCorps*Texas members provide direct service to address unmet community needs. These members also mobilize local volunteers and strengthen the capacity of the organizations where they serve. At College Forward, AmeriCorps*Texas members serve on a Full-Time (40+ hours/week) basis, for a term of 10-12 months.
